Your IP on the readout

The address and country below are what every site you open receives right now. Flip the VPN switch, refresh, and they change to the server you picked.

What can a site learn from your IP?

Your provider assigns a public IP to your connection. That alone tells a site your country, and often your city and provider as well.

Ad companies find it easy to link visits from one IP across different sites into a single profile.

What changes when the VPN is on?

While it's on, sites see a CoxVPN server's IP in place of your real IP. Set the dial to Japan and you appear in Japan; set it to Germany and you appear in Germany.

Once connected, reload this page and see whether the address and country have changed.

About the IP check

Is my IP saved by this page?

No. It reads your current connection's address and shows it to you, and that's all.

Why does it show the wrong country?

Location data comes from the country the provider registered the address under, which can be wrong. If you're on a company network or another VPN, its location is what you'll see.

Can my IP identify me?

An IP carries no name by itself. Matched with your provider's subscriber records it can, though, so hiding it on public Wi-Fi or while traveling is a good idea.
