What each VPN pass includes
How are Basic, Plus and Pro different?
Basic is not a cut-down version. All 62 cities are open, and so are WireGuard, OpenVPN UDP/TCP and IKEv2. The kill switch, split tunneling, our private DNS with leak protection, and the no-logs policy come with it too. Data and speed are unlimited on all three.
On Plus you also get blocking for ads, trackers and harmful sites, and Double VPN, which chains two CoxVPN servers. Pro covers everything Plus does, then layers on a dedicated IP and replies from support ahead of the queue. Each step up also raises how many devices can be online together, from 6 to 10 to 12.
Do I need to change any settings?
Hardly any. Out of the box you get WireGuard with the kill switch on, and that is the setup we recommend. That setup is fast, and your real IP stays hidden even if the connection flickers.
Turn to split tunneling only when an app has trouble on the VPN, like a bank app that refuses VPN addresses. Double VPN goes through an extra server, so pages load a bit slower. Use it on unfamiliar networks and switch it off afterward.
Common questions
Is Basic enough for most people?
If you mainly want protection on public Wi-Fi and access to servers abroad, yes. The core protection is identical on all three. Plus starts to make sense when you want ads filtered or a seventh device online.
What happens to excluded apps when the kill switch kicks in?
Nothing. They were never inside the tunnel, so a drop does not concern them and they keep their internet. The block only lands on apps that were using CoxVPN.
Does ad blocking work in apps too?
Yes. Filtering happens at the DNS step while you are connected, so games, news apps and every browser are covered. Ads sent from the same domain as the page content cannot be filtered.
Is it better to keep Double VPN on?
For most days, no. A second hop makes you harder to follow and also adds lag. Flip it on for a hotel lobby or trade show network, and leave it off for calls, video and gaming.
