What does the first filter block?
Most pages fetch their ads and tracking code from separate servers. We maintain a list of those servers. With the filter on, requests to them are dropped before any of it loads.
You notice it most in places a browser add-on never reaches, like the banner at the bottom of a free word game, or a shopping app that calls a dozen trackers before showing any products.
What does the scam site filter catch?
It compares each address you try to reach with lists of phishing and malware hosts. Tap a link in a fake delivery text, or get pushed to a page saying your phone has a virus, and the connection is refused.
New scam pages go up every day, faster than any list can track. Treat the filter as an extra layer, and keep your device updated.
A site stopped working. Is it the filter?
Sometimes. A few sites rely on code that looks like tracking, and then a payment button stops responding or a login box never appears. Pause the first filter, then refresh the page.
If that fixes it, keep the filter off just while you finish on that site. The scam site filter rarely breaks pages, so you can leave it on.
How do I turn the filters on?
Both filters come with Plus and with Pro. You can turn on one, both or none.
Filtering needs an active CoxVPN connection, and anything you moved out with split tunneling goes unfiltered. Look for the two switches in our apps when they launch.
- Find the Protection screen inside Settings
- Switch on the ad and tracker filter, the scam site filter, or both
- Disconnect and connect once so it takes effect
