Paying through the cart

11 questions
  1. How does checkout work?

Everything you add sits in one cart, and paying for it is a single step. Go to /cart, log in if you haven't yet, and the total comes off your balance at once. VPN passes and proxy orders can be mixed in the same cart. If your balance is short, the cart says exactly how much more to top up.

  2. Do I need to log in to use the cart?

Only to pay. Items you add while logged out stay in this browser until you come back. The cart takes up to 10 lines. Open the site in another browser or on your phone and the cart there will be empty.

  3. Basic, Plus or Pro: what's the difference?

Device count first, extras second. Basic lets 6 devices connect at once, Plus 10 and Pro 12. Plus and Pro add ad and tracker blocking, malicious site blocking and Double VPN. Only Pro comes with a dedicated IP (you pick from 10 countries) and priority support. Every server and protocol is open on all three.

  4. How long can a pass last?

Terms are 1, 3, 6, 12 or 24 months, and you pay the whole term at checkout. The longer the term, the less each month costs. Basic is $12.89 for one month but $61.89 for 24 months, about $2.58 a month and 80% less than buying 24 single months. Basic for 12 months is $54.49, roughly $4.54 a month.

  5. Will my pass renew by itself?

No. Nothing is charged unless you check out a cart yourself. After the last day, the pass ends and the VPN switch stays off until you buy a new one. We hold no card that could be billed.

    Open this question only
  6. If I buy early, do I lose days?

No, the new pass lines up behind the current one. Its term starts on the day your current pass ends. Say 20 days remain and you buy 6 months today: you use up the 20 days first, and then the 6 months begin.

  1. What crypto goes into a top-up?

Seven coins work here, from stablecoins like USDT and USDC to BTC, ETH, BNB, SOL and LTC, and with their networks that makes 12 choices on the PayGate page. Type the dollar amount in My info > Top up, anywhere from $5 to $5,000 per payment. Your balance is held in dollars and has no expiry date.

    Open this question only
  2. Is there a card or PayPal option?

No, top-ups are crypto only. If you have no coins yet, many people buy USDT on an exchange they already use and send it to the address on the payment page, using the network shown there.

    Open this question only
  3. How fast is a top-up credited?

Most land within minutes once the blockchain has confirmed the transfer. On a crowded chain that can stretch out. Match the coin and network on the payment page exactly; coins sent over a different network may need a manual check before they reach your account.

  4. Is there a refund window for passes?

Yes, 7 days, for the first VPN pass your account buys. Ask in the Contact us tab within that time. The full price returns to your balance rather than to a wallet, and each account can do this once.

  5. How do I move up from Basic?

Put a Plus or Pro pass in the cart and pay. It starts the day Basic ends, so no paid day goes unused. If you need the extra devices or features right away, write to us in the Contact us tab and we'll look at your case.

Buying and using proxies

6 questions
  1. Are proxies part of the VPN pass?

No. Proxies are a separate product with their own prices. A VPN pass gives no proxy access, and a proxy order gives no VPN. You can still put both in one cart and pay from the same balance.

    Open this question only
  2. What proxy types can I order?

Four, each sold in its own unit. Residential is by the GB, from $0.34 down to $0.232 per GB as you buy more, and the GB never expire. Unlimited residential is by the day: 200 concurrent connections at 100 Mbps cost $4.02 a day, or about $3.06 a day on a 90-day order. Static ISP runs $0.19 to $0.25 per IP a month and datacenter $0.08 to $0.11, depending on quantity (1-month prices). Pick a type under /proxies, set the amount and add it to the cart.

  3. What does Activating mean on my proxy?

That means the payment went through and we're setting the proxy up. When the status changes to Active, your login details appear in My info > My passes. If setup can't be completed, you get the whole payment back as balance.

  1. What host and port do I enter?

The host is gate.coxvpn.online for every proxy. Use port 6100 for HTTP or HTTPS and 6200 for SOCKS5. Your proxy username starts with cx (for example cx7r3t8wd), and you'll find it with the password in My info > My passes. Prefer not to use a password? Put up to 10 IPv4 addresses on the allowlist, and connections from those addresses are let in directly.

    Open this question only
  2. What becomes of a proxy at the end?

It stops, and nothing renews it for you. Unlimited residential closes after its last day, static ISP and datacenter after their last month. Buy more through the cart to keep going. Residential GB are the exception: they have no end date and last until they're used.

  3. Can balance be turned back into crypto?

No. Balance can't be sent back to a crypto wallet or moved to another account. It doesn't expire either, so it stays ready for your next VPN pass or proxy order.

Sign-up and login

8 questions
  1. What's for sale on this site?

VPN passes and proxies. A VPN pass is for your own devices: you pick a server from 62 cities in 44 countries, switch it on, and your traffic goes out to the internet from there. Proxies are for software that needs to send requests through other IP addresses, and there are four types. Both go into the same cart and are paid from one dollar balance.

  2. Email or token account: which one?

Once you're logged in, they work the same. Email suits you if you already keep passwords in a password manager. A token suits you if you'd rather leave no contact details at all. You choose in the tabs on /signup, and neither one can be recovered if you lose it.

    Open this question only
  3. What do I need for email sign-up?

An email address and a password of at least 8 characters. Tick the terms box and the account opens on the spot. We don't check the address or mail anything to it, so a typo goes unnoticed and a forgotten password can't be reset. Save the password somewhere safe before you close the page.

    Open this question only
  4. How do I open a token account?

Open the Token tab on /signup and your token is already waiting, in the form cox_XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX. Copy it or save it as a .txt file, then tick "I saved it" and the terms box. That is the whole sign-up, with no email, name or phone number. The token is your only key, so losing it means losing the account.

    Open this question only
  1. How do I log in next time?

The same way you signed up. Email accounts type the email and password. Token accounts paste the token into a single field, and capital or small letters don't matter because the form fixes them. There is no username sign-up or login on this site.

    Open this question only
  2. How many accounts can one IP open?

Three. A fourth sign-up from the same IP address is refused. The rule keeps bots from creating accounts in bulk. If several people share one connection, for example in a small office, explain the situation to us in the Contact us tab.

    Open this question only
  3. Signed up. What do I do first?

Top up, then shop. Go to My info > Top up and add at least $5 in crypto. Then choose a VPN pass on /plans, put it in the cart and pay at /cart. The pass appears under My passes with its start and end dates.

  4. Could a VPN get me in legal trouble?

Almost everywhere it's fine. A handful of countries restrict or ban VPNs, so read the local rules before you travel to one of them. A VPN only changes the route your traffic takes. Anything illegal without it is still illegal with it, and our Acceptable Use Policy forbids that kind of use.

Apps and connected devices

6 questions
  1. Can I download the apps yet?

Not yet, they are still being built. When they're ready, accounts with days left on a VPN pass will see how to get them in My info > Get the apps. Program downloads are available to paying customers only. Until then, /apps shows each device's requirements and the planned install steps.

    Open this question only
  2. Why can't I find you in app stores?

We haven't listed anything on the App Store or Google Play yet. An app there with a similar name was not made by us. Install instructions will appear in My info > Get the apps once the apps are released.

    Open this question only
  3. Which devices are the apps planned for?

On computers: Windows 10 or 11 and macOS 12 onward. On phones and tablets: iOS 15 onward for iPhone and iPad, Android 8 onward for the rest. Linux packages for Ubuntu, Debian and Fedora are on the way too, along with an Android TV app. Routers don't run an app; they take a WireGuard config file instead.

    Open this question only
  1. How many devices share one pass?

Basic 6, Plus 10, Pro 12. We count live connections, not installs. Put the app on as many devices as you like; only the ones switched on at the same moment take a slot.

    Open this question only
  2. Can I set the VPN up on a router?

As long as its firmware supports WireGuard client mode, yes. Import our config file in the router's admin page, and phones, laptops and TVs on that Wi-Fi all use the VPN, yet the whole router takes up one device slot. The file will be in Get the apps when the apps launch.

    Open this question only
  3. Which protocol should I switch on?

WireGuard, unless something blocks it. It's our default pick and generally the one with the best speed. On networks that stop it, as some hotels and offices do, try OpenVPN over TCP. For phones, IKEv2 is handy: switching from Wi-Fi to mobile data barely interrupts it. OpenVPN can also run over UDP.

Fixing common problems

7 questions
  1. Nothing connects, whatever server I pick.

First look at My info > My passes, because an expired pass is the most common cause. If the pass is active, turn the dial to a different server. Next, try OpenVPN TCP in place of WireGuard; networks that filter VPN traffic usually let it pass. As a last step, close and reopen the app, and reboot the device if that fails.

    Open this question only
  2. Why is the VPN slowing me down?

A little loss is normal, and distance matters most. Your data is encrypted and takes a detour through our server, so choose one close to you. WireGuard is usually the fastest protocol. Double VPN on Plus and Pro sends traffic through two servers, so switch it on only when you want that. Split tunneling helps too: games or streaming apps can skip the tunnel.

    Open this question only
  3. A site only blocks me with the VPN on.

That site is probably refusing known VPN addresses. Another server in the same country often gets you in. Another fix is split tunneling, which lets one browser bypass the tunnel while everything else stays on it. On Pro, try your dedicated IP, since nobody else uses it.

  4. I lost my password or token.

We can't get either one back. We send no email, so there is no reset link, and we have no way to confirm who owns an account. The only option left is a new account, which is why the sign-up screen asks more than once that you save your details.

  1. My top-up is missing after an hour.

Send us the transaction ID (TXID) from your wallet in the Contact us tab. We'll find the payment on the chain and check why it wasn't credited. Confirmation times differ by coin, so a short delay isn't always a problem.

    Open this question only
  2. Why can't my new device find a free slot?

All of your slots are held by devices that are connected right now. Switch the VPN off on one of them and try again. A device that lost power or its network can keep its slot for a few minutes before it's released.

    Open this question only
  3. How do I contact you?

Through My info > Contact us, after you log in. Replies show up in the same tab, not by email. Mention your device and what you were doing when the problem started, which saves a round of questions. Pro accounts get answered first.

Privacy and ciphers

6 questions
  1. Is my VPN activity logged?

No. Once the VPN is on, we don't record the sites you open, the content of your traffic, DNS queries, your real IP, or when you connected and disconnected. The servers are configured never to write that kind of data to disk.

    Open this question only
  2. What do you keep about my account?

Only what logging in and your purchase history need. Email accounts: the email in lowercase and a scrypt hash of the password, never the password itself. Token accounts: a login hash of the token, the token's final 4 characters, and a single encrypted copy that exists only so top-ups find the right account. On top of that, each account carries its balance, payment history, pass dates and a hash of the IP it signed up from.

    Open this question only
  3. How are devices counted with no logs?

Each live connection holds a temporary slot on the server, and slots are all we count. A slot says that one seat is in use. It holds no IP and nothing about your traffic, and it's deleted the moment you disconnect.

    Open this question only
  1. Do I need the kill switch?

For most people, yes. If the tunnel drops, the kill switch cuts the internet until it reconnects, so your real IP isn't exposed in the meantime. It will be a toggle in the app settings when the apps come out.

    Open this question only
  2. Can my ISP see which sites I visit?

Not while the VPN is on. DNS requests, the lookups that turn a site name into an address, travel inside the tunnel to DNS servers we run. Your ISP sees an encrypted connection to a VPN server and nothing about the sites behind it.

    Open this question only
  3. Which encryption protects my traffic?

It depends on the protocol you choose. Pick WireGuard and the cipher is ChaCha20; pick OpenVPN or IKEv2 and it's AES-256-GCM. Both ciphers are public and have been in wide use for years. We have not had an outside security audit yet.
