Could a VPN get me in legal trouble?

Almost everywhere it's fine.

A handful of countries restrict or ban VPNs, so read the local rules before you travel to one of them. A VPN only changes the route your traffic takes. Anything illegal without it is still illegal with it, and our Acceptable Use Policy forbids that kind of use.
