Finding the right server

Does the server's distance change my speed?

Yes. Every page you open makes a round trip: from your device to a CoxVPN server, to the site, and back again. A server in a nearby city adds only a few milliseconds. One on the far side of the world can add close to a quarter of a second to each trip, and that is when a fast connection starts to feel sluggish.

The server also decides which country sites think you are in. They see the server's IP, not your real IP. Connect to Frankfurt and sites treat you as a visitor from Germany.

Which city should I try first?

For daily browsing and shopping, turn the dial to the city closest to you. It is almost always the quickest. Services limited to one country need a city inside its borders. When you travel, a server in your home country keeps your bank app and local services working as usual.

Some services make a point of rejecting VPN connections. Using the right country raises the chances it works, but we cannot promise it will work everywhere.

Do cheaper passes get fewer cities?

No. Every pass, Basic included, reaches all 44 countries and their 62 cities. Move between them as often as you like. There is no switch limit and no extra charge.

Pro also includes a dedicated IP, an address that belongs to your account alone. Its location is set in the cart, before payment. Ten countries are on offer, from South Korea and Japan in Asia to Germany and the Netherlands in Europe.

Common questions

Is there a limit on hopping cities?

No. Disconnect, choose a different city, and connect again as many times as you want. Hopping is free, and your remaining days stay the same.

What is the quickest way to a fast server?

Begin with the nearest city. If it feels slow, try another city in the same country, and if you are on OpenVPN, switch to WireGuard. Testing two or three cities at the same hour shows the difference clearly.

Why does one server have different speeds during the day?

After dinner, both our server and your provider's path abroad carry more people. A city that is fast in the morning may slow down around 9 p.m., so keep a second nearby city in mind.

Will you add more countries?

Send a request through My info > Contact us. You can write to us even without a VPN pass. We look first at the countries people ask for most when we add servers.
