Why hide my IP from other players?
Peer-to-peer matches and some voice chat tools can leak your IP to any player who goes looking. With CoxVPN connected, that lookup lands on a data center rather than your neighborhood.
On dorm Wi-Fi or an internet cafe connection, the path from your device to our server is encrypted. Someone sharing that network has no way to read what your game sends.
Which city keeps ping lowest?
Any tunnel stretches the route a little. Choose a city near you, or near the game's own servers, and the added distance stays small.
On some nights our route beats your provider's, on others it trails by a few milliseconds. Turn the dial across two or three nearby cities and trust the ping number the game displays.
- WireGuard as the protocol
- A city in your country or right next door
- If in-game ping jumps, move to the next city
What about consoles?
Console stores rarely carry VPN apps. When our router WireGuard file is ready, add it to the router, and the console goes through CoxVPN with no setup on the console itself.
However many things sit behind that router, it counts as one device on your pass.
Will the game publisher mind?
A few publishers forbid VPNs or region changes in their terms. Check first, since any penalty falls on your game account.
Those decisions belong to the publisher, and we have no way to reverse a ban.
How do I keep big updates off the VPN?
Put the game launcher on the leave-out list in split tunneling. Patches then download over your normal line, while voice chat and the browser stay in the tunnel.
Split tunneling comes with every pass, Basic included.
